The Magical Wonders Of The Spoon
I like to eat food, and when i am eating food i am not the person who says 'Wow! this is awesome food!' i am the type of person that would say 'Wow! look at this spoon!' Well, maybe i might be the only person in the world that does that... Anyways,I did some research and here is some things all about spoons.
Who invented the spoon?
No one really knows who invented the spoon, BUT we do know that they have been around for over 100,000 years.
What were spoons made of before we discovered metal?
Spoons were made out of shards of bone, clay, snail shells or just shells and of course the metal spoons we have today.
Scientists think that in prehistoric times people used shells and shards of wood.
The word 'spoon'
In fact, both the Greek and Latin words for spoon are from cochlea, meaning a spiral-shaped snail shell. This suggests that shells were commonly used as spoons in Southern Europe.
The spoon people also known as the 'people of the spoon'
The Romans, designed two types of spoons: the first was called ligula, this was used for soups and soft foods. The second was called cochleare, this
was a small spoon with a round bowl and a pointed skinny handle for eating shellfish and eggs.
The richer spoons
Wealthier families of the middle ages had spoons made out of gold, then of course people made the silver spoons and the 'richer spoons' got downgraded to silver.
I like spoons and i think that they are the best kind of cutlery there is. And remember, spoons are not always used to eat yummy foods. Spoons are a work of art, used to hang on the tips of your nose willing to please your friends and family at the dinner table.
